The Long and Short of It

Cole had his first karate tournament on Sunday afternoon. Here is a video of him (he's the one in red gear). When sparring, they try to "tag" each other to get a point. The first person to get three points wins the match.

His opponent, as you can see, had bit longer arm's reach than Cole. Cole is tall for his age, but he is one of the youngest in karate, so he is shorter than most other competitors.  Cole managed to get a couple of points for tags, but his opponent was able to tag him on the head and score three points first.

Everyone is a winner at this age, though, and Cole brought home a "Second Place" trophy!

He still enjoys karate, and was happy to place his trophy on his nightstand (which you know just *thrilled* me because I love clutter like that so much).

In other news, Tate finally had his 9-month check up today. He will be 10 months old this week. The Human Vacuum Cleaner is burning off a lot of calories for all the food he eats - I knew it! He weighs a little over 21 pounds (46%) and is 28.5 inches long (37%). I don't think he's that short, but I guess he is not as tall as his brother or 63% of other 10 month old male babies. He just looks so chunky because of his sweet cheeks.  He had to have blood drawn for a CBC today, which is routine at this age to check for anemia.  Guess what?! His veins rolled and they had to stick him 3 times. Seriously, did my boys have to inherit my ears and my veins??!! Poor baby. Poor mama. Poor lab tech.  Tate HATED the needle sticks.
