This week's ToT is about home decorating and has some great questions, so here goes:
1. Ikea: over-hyped and confusing or genius furniture company?
I don't really know. The closest Ikea to us is in North Dallas and they don't sell much online, so I have never shopped there. I've seem some pieces that other people have and they seem great for organization and accent furniture. Having grown up in a family that had Ethan Allen furniture stores, I tend to be a bit of a furniture snob. If only I had the budget to match!
2. Your favorite interior-decorator-type person wants to makeover one room in your house. Which room do you choose and why?The entryway. We recently removed wallpaper that Mike hated and painted the walls a neutral color. I love the staircase and the grand two-story entrance, but it doesn't get much light and I'm at a loss on how to make it pop.
3. Describe the furniture in your childhood bedroom. Did you like it? Where is that furniture now?
I had a complete suite from Ethan Allen, thanks to my Mamaw & Papaw's store, that was light yellow. I had a twin bed with a trundle, a wall unit with chests and bookcases, and a desk and chair. I do not know where it is now - I am guessing my parents sold it when we moved to a new house when I was 13.
4. When you’re done with furniture, what do you do with it? Donate it to Goodwill OR Sell it on Craigslist OR Put it by the curb and hope the trash guys take it?
All of the above - depends on the condition of the piece.
5. My Pinterest furniture style could best be described as
funky/eclectic
antique/shabby chic
modern/minimalist
so random and varied it’s undefinableNone of the above. I have a very traditional style, even down the things I pin on Pinterest.
6. Name the most important furniture/toy in a toddler’s playroom. And why?
Hands down some good, sturdy baskets to store toys. Why? So there are not a million Legos, cars, puzzle pieces, and toy trains scattered on the floor.
7. Your parents (or grandparents or other relative) are giving away all their furniture. Which piece do you really want?
I already have both of my grandfathers' desks, and a piano and an original oil painting from my grandparents, all of which are treasures to me. We also have a vintage fridge (that works and that we use every day) from Mike's grandparents that I love.
8. Your biggest furniture buying or home decorating regret?
We bought a cheap chandellier for our dining room from Lowe's when we moved in this house. Previously it was the yellow paint color that we used in the informal living room, but we repainted a few months ago and now I love that room.
9. $1000 gift card! Do you want it to Ethan Allen, ikea, Pottery Barn Kids?Ethan Allen or PBK. I'm ready to re-decorate Cole's room and I love me some PBK for the boys!
10. Bunk beds, loft beds, trundle beds, or canopy beds?
I loved my trundle bed growing up and Cole has a custom-made bulldozer bed, which is pretty cool but a PAIN to make up. I love the look of two twin beds.
***And today's bonus has absolutely nothing to do with decorating, but here is a video of Tate's animal impressions. This actually isn't his best work (it was 6:30 am Monday and boy needs his breakfast), but cute nonetheless***
OMG...Feed my starving nephew please! So adorable!
ReplyDeleteHe's soooo cute! Very impressive animal noises too. That lizard is way too precious.
ReplyDeleteToo cute, Tate!
