The One I Missed

I am fortunate that as a working mother I've been able to attend every school field trip, party, award ceremony, and presentation for Cole this year... until today.  Mike and I are tag-team parenting this week. I was gone to California for work on Tuesday and Wednesday, only to come home to Mike leaving for work for several days.  Unfortunately, we couldn't make it work (no pun intended) to go to the zoo with Cole's class today.

This is the only proof that I have that he actually went to the zoo today (the picture was texted to me, so I can't make it any bigger).

I felt really guilty about missing this field trip, but the fact is that he is able to attend this amazing school that takes field trips to the zoo and other places because I work to help pay for it.  I often feel guilty... for missing a field trip, for leaving Tate in day care, etc.  However, my kids are strong and very independent, characteristics of which I am proud.

I read a blog post recently about moms who work and moms who stay home and the struggles both face.  The point of the article was that women should support each other regardless of the situation because there are benefits and disadvantages to both staying at home and to working.  I fully support that sentiment! I am happy to use my knowledge and education, and I'm also thankful for the flexibility I do have so that I can watch this in the afternoons:

I love my boys. I love my husband. I love my home.  And sometimes I even love my job ;)
