Break It!

Week before last, Cole was sick. And I mean SICK.  He contracted some nasty virus that was not flu and was not strep, but knocked him out. And I mean OUT of school for the entire week.

However, I did make him get up, put on his most dapper bow tie and compete in the ACSI Speech Meet that Friday.  Because? Well, because this was the District-wide meet that he worked hard to qualify for, and because I was judging and I had to be there.  He walked away with a second-place Excellent ribbon for Third Grade Bible Memory.  Not too shabby!

Speaking of ribbons, a couple of days before Cole competed in the Speech Meet, our little Picasso won the Best in Show ribbon for all of Pre-K for his Antarctica masterpiece.

I do not know where in the world his artistic talent came from, but I am thankful for an amazing new Art teacher at Brook Hill who is fostering (and acknowledging) his skills. I am also thankful Kelley came to sit with the ill older brother so I could attend the Fine Arts Awards Assembly.

After a busy week, with Mike gone most days, and a sick kiddo, it was finally time for SPRING BREAK! BOOM!

Telluride with my favorite little peeps

And my favorite slightly older peeps :)

And my favorite Dad!

Looooooong story short, American Airlines lost 6 out of 7 of the Whytlaws' bags, so we flexed over to Plan B, went shopping for new ski clothes, and hung out our first day in town.

It ended up working out just fine because we were able to get skis and boards rented for the kids so we could be the first ones on the mountain Monday morning (and Tuesday and Wednesday mornings!).

Plus, we had a fun lunch in Mountain Village, complete with s'mores at the table for dessert!

With new gear in tow, the kids bundled up on Sunday afternoon to play in snow, build snow forts, and sled.

Reagoni and I hit up the shops downtown.... except I think the only thing we bought were truffles from the Telluride Chocolate Company. I don't even like dessert, and I think these things are fabulous.

The next morning, we hit the slopes in half a foot of fresh powder, and watched more come down all day.  It was AWESOME!!  All the kids were in ski/boarding school, so we tore it up all over the mountain.

These were the cutest little athletes in Southwestern Colorado.

Mike and I celebrated our anniversary on our vacation at the top of the Rockies. #Lucky13

We had lunch at Alpino Vino, the highest elevation fine-dining restaurant in North America. The Whytlaws also treated us to a fancy kid-free dinner at 221 S. Oak in town on Monday night while Johnny entertained the hoodlums. He even had the three boys in bed before we got back home. SCORE one for the grandpa :)

Everyone was ready to hit the slopes for a sunny day on Tuesday...

everyone except Cole-Man, that is. After a couple days without fever, he woke up hot and then broke out in a rash. On vacation. Awesome. Not.
Thankfully, Dad stayed home with him so the rest of us could enjoy a gorgeous bluebird day and Mike and my's anniversary.

Cole felt a little better by Wednesday, so everyone got on the mountain.  I've been skiing with Dad over 30 years.  He and John Hunter are some of the best skiers I know.  This year I beat him down The Plunge. SCORE one for me :)

We all went out to Brown Dog Pizza for dinner our last night in town and then enjoyed a gondola ride over the mountain.  These two friends had a blast.

I've been on too many Spring Break ski trips with Reagan to count.  How lucky am I that we are still going strong, with our fun and handsome hubbies by our sides, and four wild and crazy (okay, three wild and crazy and one really mature and sweet) kids later?!

This is one tradition I never want to break.

xo,
Linds
