the Snowy Owl.
That's right. The snowy owl. The First Graders have a huge research project on Amazing Animals. Cole chose the snowy owl, and had to research in books and on the Internet, write a non-fiction book, make a poster with pictures, captions, and diagrams, give a presentation in class, and finally give a presentation at the Amazing Animals Fair for the entire school.
Note that his class presentation was two school days after the speech meet, the same day as his Easter program, and the morning after his first baseball game. The all-school presentation was this morning after a baseball game that ended at 10:00 pm last night -- with a pop fly hit and a run scored by Cole, and a WIN by the team I might add!!
I can barely keep up, and have no idea how our 7 year old can.
Three Monkeys... I mean, a crab, a snowy Owl, and a shark.
The project counts for a huge portion of their science, social studies, reading, and writing grades for the Fourth Quarter. For extra credit, the kids could decorate a shirt for the Amazing Animals Fair.
Cole worked really hard and did most of the work himself (all of it, other than using the hot glue gun and fabric glue). But, it was still a TON of work. All I have to say is... Tate better choose the Snowy Owl as his Amazing Animal in 4 years. ;)
If you want to know anything about the snowy owl, just ask our incredibly talented and smart First Grader. Or me.
