From Cali to Jacksonville... Texas

How does that saying go?  "Sometimes the best laid plans..." never work out.

The story of our pseudo-anniversary weekend:

 

We originally planned to celebrate our 10 year anniversary this weekend with a trip to Napa Valley.  We discussed it over 9 months ago and arranged it to coincide with Cole and Mom's Spring Break week so that Mom and Jim could come keep the boys. 

 

Well, things change and a couple of months ago we decided to forgo the California trip and save our money and time off work.  But, because we've never had a weekend just as  a couple since Cole was about 3,  we planned a trip to Ft. Worth, complete with reservations at a nice hotel, dinner reservations, and tickets to see Dwight Yoakam play at Billy Bob's.

 

Then this happened -->

 

 

Both kids got really sick. Ear infection and upper respiratory infection for Cole. Pneumonia for Tate.  Trip cancelled.

 

Thank goodness Mimi and Papa Jim were here to help with the 3-hour doctor appointment and x-rays, countless breathing treatments, medicine administrations, and to read to two sick boys.

 

The kids slowly improved over the weekend, so Mom and Jim took them to the drive-through safari to see turkeys

 

crocodiles,

 

buffalo, and much more.



 

 

 They also made a trip to the park, and Mike and I were able to get away to eat lunch and run some errands in Tyler. Not exactly Napa, or FW, but at that point, we took what we could get!!

 

The boys were not themselves at all, but happy to have their grandparents here.

 

I was able to surprise Mike this weekend with this original craie on surface artwork by a local artist in town. She did an amazing job, and he LOVED it (surprising him with something he likes is a feat in itself!).

 

The anniversary celebration/trip may not have worked out as planned, but we are just glad the boys are feeling better.  Plus, I hear 11 is the new 10! There is always next year to celebrate. ;)

 

Last but certainly not least, HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the twins last Tuesday and to Kayla today! We love y'all!
