Rain, Sun, and Stars

Rain, rain, go AWAY! I think I say that every year around this time.  April and May in East Texas are wet.  And I mean SOAKING wet.  Good for the plants and trees, not so good for baseball games and brand new lake docks. 

This was our dock on Friday afternoon as the guys were installing the last few deck boards. We wrote a check, thanked them, and...

came back out on Saturday after 5+ inches of rain to this:

Brand new dock completely submerged.  Not the worst thing that could have happened with all the rain and storms, but certainly not a scene we were thrilled to see.  We had not even walked on that dock before the torrential rains covered it.

But, the sun came out shining on Saturday and we ended up swimming at home. Even Sammie got in on the action. 

We were also thankful for the clear skies because the annual Brook Hill auction and dinner was Saturday night outside.  This year's theme was a barn dance, and the Durretts hosted the event in their "barn" (think brick building with full kitchen and wrap-around porch that is bigger than your home!).  Chance Pena played (he was a finalist on The Voice last season), and we had BBQ and pie for dinner.  It was a fun time, even though Mike was sick.

Cole's piano recital was Sunday.  He brought home the Bach Award for his fourth recital, and we are beyond proud of him.  Here is Star Wars:

A hiccup at the end, but an otherwise awesome performance.  This is a different piece than the one he played in competition just a couple of weeks ago, so he had little time to prepare for recital.  He, being the perfectionist he is (no idea where that comes from --- ha!), was extremely disappointed in the way he played the last two measures.  Let me just say that every single kid messed up at least once, and he is too hard on himself. But, I'm glad he strives for perfection.
