The Motherhood

The Stansberrys have been... SICK.  One down with Strep, one down with a sinus infection and allergies, one in surgery for his ears, and the other at the hospital for testing.  Combine this with a choir competition in Dallas, baseball games, t-ball games, baseball practice, school assembly, choir concert, work, and travel over the past seven days, and we are BURNT TOAST.

But, when you are served burnt toast, you just wash it down with a large cup of tea. Or vodka.  Sometimes you need vodka.

This one missed a few days of school last week with Strep.

Because we all do make-up work in football helmets.  Maybe his brain hurt from all the studying this year?!??

He felt better just in time for the Music in the Park competition at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony hall in Dallas.  The Brook Hill Cadet Singers took home all Division I ratings and FIRST PLACE for all elementary school chorales!

Peggy and her friend, Melinda, were able to join us and watch these AMAZING kids perform. They skipped out on the trip to Six Flags after the competition.  They win. ;)

We ended up with this group of FUN boys - Von, Cade, Tate, Cole, Braxton, and Beck

Cole won a basketball at a basketball toss game, so of course he chose the Texas Rangers ball because it is baseball season at the Stansberrys' house after all! :)

Tate chose to hop in with Cade (a 5th grader) on his first-ever roller coaster ride. He loved it!

Mike and Cole on another ride.  They are all smiles, but the truth is it was CROWDED. Ashley, the big boys, and I waited in line for an hour for just two minutes of fun on the Texas Giant.

After a few more rides, we high-tailed it to Target, bought cheap bathing suits, went back to the hotel and swam and lounged by the pool with the Dawsons and Durretts. SO.MUCH.MORE.FUN.

We crammed the kids into the Durretts' room, ordered room service and a movie, and the six adults enjoyed dinner by the pool nearby. Now THAT was a good Mother's Day gift :)

Speaking of, I scored some awesome earrings from Mike and these jewels from the Littles.

Um, Tate might know me better than I know myself.

Cole's poems were so thoughtful.  I did have to ask him why he spelled my name wrong. He said his teacher told him.  What are they teaching kids nowawdays?! ;)

Sunday, we enjoyed brunch at the Mansion with Peggy.  Except this time, I was sick.  Not strep, but found out at the doctor the next day that I had a sinus infection.

After I got my antibiotic, and Cole was still taking his, Tate finished his prescription just in time for us to head to the hospital at 5 am on Tuesday for surgery. This is tubes set #3 for Tate-O.  He was not feeling well after anesthesia, but...

he made it to his baseball game that evening where he hit a GRAND SLAM HOME RUN!

Perhaps I need some of whatever they gave him during surgery. ;)

The next day, Pre-K presented a play during Chapel. Tate had a short line and they sang a few songs. I didn't make it this time, but had some nice moms record it for me.

BFFs Brooks, Tate, and Hetcher

Finally, we ended with the week BACK at the hospital with Mike, where, thank God, his test results came back normal.  We celebrated with... baseball practice and then changing in the car for the Cadet Singers final Spring Concert. Um, is it Friday yet??

She loved a little boy very, very much -- even more than she loved herself.

Happy Mother's Day to my mom, my MIL, my Mamaw, Mike's Grandma Schut (who just celebrated her 90th!!), and all my friends. Each of you inspires me to be a better mom every day.

But next year... no sickness, no theme park, no toast! ;)
