Today was the first day of Pre-Kindergarten for Tate and Third Grade for Cole. That's right, the baby started at Brook Hill.
I was asked to guest-write another post on the Small Town Kids blog this week, so I will share it here as well on Friday. It will provide even more insight about the first day I sent both boys away to school. But, for my records, here are the First Day Stansberry Stats--
The day started out with our annual Back to School Breakfast. Not as over-the-top as I have done before with streamers across the kitchen, but with a small educational gift for each child [a book for Cole and a puzzle for Tate] and some festive pennants.

I will say that I am usually [overly] organized and feel confident that I have school days well-planned and under control. Today, not so much. Oh, I still arrived at Brook Hill well before most people with two sharply-dressed kids carrying backpacks and full lunch kits, but I felt off. I am not sure anything really prepares you for sending both kids to real school. Double the shirts to tuck in, double the ties to tie, double the whines about wearing the ties, double the lunches to pack, double the first day photos to take, double the excitement. Double.The.Anxiety.

We got geared-up and ready to go.
First backpack. First lunch kit. First Day. But not our first stripes. ;)
Drop off was easy for Cole. He chatted everyone up walking down the hall, bounced into his room, smiled for a photo, and then began to label folders per instructions from Mrs. B.
Drop off for this nugget? Well, 10 minutes after finally coercing him to go into the room from the hallway, we made progress. Another 10 minutes coercing him to sit at his seat at the table. Another 10 minutes of me asking him to smile for a photo... to no avail... and finally a 10-minute good-bye.
THANKFULLY, we are at the best school. With the best teachers.
From Meet the Teacher night on Monday...
Tate and Mrs. Haugh
Cole and Mrs. Bickerstaff
We also have the best friends (and an amazing teacher that sent these next few photos!)
Tate, Hetcher, and Paige
Tate and Aiden at lunch
Mrs. Haugh's Band rockin to Pete the Cat. The guitarist is dreamy, no?
Cole and Braxton
Mrs. B has a lot of boys in her class. A.LOT.OF.ROWDY.BOYS. Mainly these two, but there are like 9 others out of 15 total students in class [OMGosh there are no girls in this grade]. But here is the thing... Ashley posted this photo on Facebook, and there were comments about how handsome these boys are [I mean, they are pretty cute], but one comment from their piano teacher said: "They are going to change the world."
And they will.
I do not think anyone could say anything about your child that could make you feel any more proud.
Bring on Third Grade. Bring on Pre-K. Bring on the tears.
