The Snow Patrol

We came back after the craziness of being gone and travelling back and forth after John passed away to freezing temperatures this week.  Cole's school let out Monday at 10:30 am (they start at 8:20 am) because of sleet.  Then Tate's school released early at noon.  Tuesday, both schools were delayed.  Cole's school was cancelled Wednesday, and Tate had a late start that day.  Tate's school was delayed on Thursday, and finally, FINALLY both boys had regular days on Friday.  Mike was gone to Florida, and I came down with a cold, so managing the week was less than ideal.  I'm still not sure why school was cancelled/delayed other than it doesn't snow out here very often and drivers aren't sure of what to do. Growing up in West Texas, I was a little frustrated. BUT, I was glad the boys got to see some white flakes at the house.

They didn't even think it was cold enough for jackets :)

Not quite enough fluffy stuff to make snow ice cream or build a snowman, but we did get in a few fists of snow for a snowball fight. They loved it.

I had a birthday somewhere in there, and we celebrated early at home before Mike left for Florida.  One of Mike's former co-workers brought us dinner and a cake that night after learning about John passing -- not even knowing it was my birthday.  Mike threw some candles on the cake and, voila, we had a birthday cake.

My sweet friends in town (Kelley, Destiny, Ashley, Jill, Cori, and Natalie) took me to lunch on Friday and surprised me with a generous gift certificate to our favorite local spa.  I have THE BEST friends -- I just forgot to snap a photo of them to prove it :)

Mike and I planned to go out to dinner by ourselves on Saturday, but the sitter cancelled and we couldn't find anyone else available.  It all worked out for the best anyway because we had a great steak dinner and super fun game night with the Peacocks.

Cheers with some Moscow Mules

I picked up some SmallCakes cupcakes in Tyler, and they were DELISH! Best cupcakes ever.

Kate, Tate, and Cole were great: they played baseball, swam in the hot tub, watched a couple movies, and happily stayed up WAAAAY past bedtime while their moms beat their dads at Sequence ;)

I am looking forward to sunshine (which we aren't forecasted to have this week in East Texas, but surely I'll see some in New Mexico!!), enough snow to build a family of snowmen (38" has fallen in the past 72 hours in Taos), and skiing and hanging out with friends for a week.  37 isn't so bad after all ;)
