How Many Times...

can we sing Happy Birthday? Well, three, but truly never enough for Tate. This kid LOVES a good birthday celebration, and how can these videos not make you happy?!

#1 - School Party

#2 - Birthday Dinner at Home

#3 - Birthday Party with friends

We had Tate's birthday party on Sunday with his friends and the Creature Teacher. Best. Party. Evah.

The set-up:

Cake table with snakes and a spider in a jar. I made the tassels from rolls of crepe paper. Funny story - when I had the flu week before last, I sent my dad to get brown and green crepe paper and balloons for the party.  He returned from the store with 100 white balloons and 50 sheets of purple glitter tissue paper. Maybe it was good we had to re-schedule ;)

Our baker, Mandy, out-did herself this year.  Two-tier chocolate/white cake with critters and snakes. Tate loves sweets.  I mean LOVES sweets. He was beside himself about this cake and showed it off to all his friends.  He probably touched it five hundred times before we cut it, too.

Party favors were plastic bug boxes filled with {sour gummy} worms and animals {crackers}.

Entryway table for gifts
(this was obviously before the guests arrived)

Snacks included Critter Crunch (Chex mix with animal crackers and Teddy Grahams), Rabbit Food (fruits and veggies), and Swamp Juice (pineapple lemonade punch)

Snacks for the adults who braved the party during the Cowboys game were chips and sausage dip, mimosas, beer, and wine

I ordered a coloring page/table runner that was all reptiles, and placed it on the table with lots of crayons and markers.

It is not always easy to come up with fun birthday ideas for a young, active boy in the middle of winter, but Tate loves animals so I thought having the Creature Teacher bring some critters and eating a critter-filled cake would be something different and neat for Tate + friends, and we could host everything inside.

She brought a chinchilla, a hedgehog, an English Angora rabbit, a ferret, a skinny pig (hairless Guinea pig) and a tortoise.

The kids loved it.  I asked Tate what his favorite animal was and he said, "All the animals, Mama!"

Virginia wasn't so sure about the chinchilla up close, though... (HOW PRECIOUS IS THIS?!)

Kate and Cole basically narrated the party, answering questions and showing off all their knowledge of animals. Are we surprised? No. #notshy #oursmarties

Maddie Jane loved the animals so much she was clapping!

Tate received lots of nice gifts, and had so much fun with his friends today! What is so sweet at this age is that every single child is excited to watch him open the present they brought.  And he truly loved every single one.

It was controlled chaos with 12 kids inside the house for a couple of hours (dang freezing rain!), but we really had such a blast.  This sweet face makes it all worth it

I am thankful for the past four happy and healthy years with Tate, and for my family and friends.
