Baca's Blog: To the Beach and Beyond

I thought it might be time for another guest posting on Lindsay’s blog and she graciously agreed to let me give it a go.  So, this is Peggy (the MIL) aka Baca (the grandmother) and this is all about my week with Cole.

Last week was Cole’s first grandparents’ week of his summer vacation.  After picking him up on Sunday in Hearne and returning to San Marcos, he and I left Monday morning for Port Aransas.  First order of business—get ready for the beach by taking everything out of the beach closet!

I couldn’t wait to teach him how to body surf and it turns out he’s a natural!  He caught the waves and had some rides that amazed both of us.  Despite two wipeouts he got right back on and kept going.

Then it was off to do a little exploring and watch people fishing at Robert’s Point Park with Cole sporting his new shark’s tooth necklace.

And here he is capturing a hermit crab.  We didn’t bring that home.

A gorgeous sunset with my perfect little grand-nugget!

We finished off the day with a round of miniature golf where he scored two holes in one! And don’t you know he showed the big guys behind us how it was done.

Wednesday we’re back in the car heading back to San Marcos.  No visit to this area is complete without a trip to Cabela’s.

Cole found the motivation to learn to tie his shoes when he found a dart gun he just couldn’t live without. So he learned to do it right there in the store! The look on his face when he finally did it was absolutely priceless!

And the reward

Friday was another road trip—to Dallas to meet up with mom and dad and Tate whom he missed the most.
Cole spent some quality time with his Grandpa this week too and I’m so proud of the maturity and sensitivity he demonstrates at the care facility and the love and respect he shows to his Grandpa.
After more than a thousand miles, a gazillion playings of “Herbie Goes Bananas” and way too many Happy Meals, our week came to an end. Thanks, Mike and Lindsay, for sharing your precious son with me.  We had so much fun together.  Get ready Grace, Kasia and Tate!  It won’t be long until you get a week with Baca/Nana too!
