King of all Cakes

It may be a couple of weeks early for Mardi Gras, but we celebrated Fat Tuesday in style with the King of King Cakes from Gambino's Bakery in New Orleans.

This was delivered courtesy of a friend of mine from work, Sarah.  Cole refers to her as "Worker Girl Sarah."  We love Sarah.  (Well, Tate loves apple juice, but I'm sure he loves Sarah when he comes up from air ;))

A week before the King Cake arrived, Sarah sent the boys "Gaston Goes to Mardi Gras."  A wonderful book written by the author (James Rice) of one of my favorite childhood books, "Cajun Night Before Christmas." My Mamaw and Papaw brought me the book back from NO, circa early 1980s.  I still have it.

Cole loved decorating the King Cake. He also loved picking out his lime green fleece and maroon wind pants. Oh, thank goodness he wears a uniform to school.

Tate: "Cake?  Did someone say cake? I swear I didn't get any. That is not icing with green sprinkles on my mouth.  I must get a second piece of this cake."
