The time around the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays is always CRAZY busy. I feel like it's a race to get from November 1 to the week before Christmas when the boys start their holiday break from school. This year is no different. We are pulled in a million different directions, and Mike has been gone at least 3 days out of every week for the past month. BUT... we have had a few nice breaks amongst the holiday hustle this year.
We decided we needed to recharge as our little core family and change up the typical big meal/fancy table/washing fine china/yelling at the kids to sit still Thanksgiving. Instead, we went and ran a 5K Turkey Trot in Tyler on Thanksgiving morning!
We finished in less than 40 minutes, which is impressive, I think, considering those short 5 year-old legs ran less than 13-minute miles! Tate did not complain at all, LOVED the race, and has asked to run more.
In addition to the 5K, both boys competed in the Kids' Dash and finished in the top 10 in their respective age divisions. Studs! We rounded out the day lounging in our shorts (!), watching the Cowboys play, and eating homemade chili and tamales.
Thanksgiving 2016 for the WIN!
Speaking of wins, we took off early the morning after Thanksgiving for the annual Texas Tech v. Baylor Shootout game at AT&T Stadium in Dallas.
Mom and Jim met us, and we had so much fun with lunch at the Mansion on Turtle Creek and then tailgating in the parking lot with the Westbrooks before the game.
Getting 5 kids to smile at the same time? This is as good as it gets -->
Game ball with friends Breckin and Cole - they loved playing football in the parking lot, seeing the stadium, and hanging out with Mimi and Papa Jim!!
We rounded out the trip with a Red Raider victory and brunch at Smoke restaurant before heading back home.
Dad and Katy came back from their Thanksgiving in Sugar Land with the Leevers, and we spent a beautiful Saturday at the lake. Katy even helped me decorate our Christmas tree (always a live one from our local nursery). In a house full of boys, I was so thankful to get some help with the decorating details!
After another hectic week of school meetings, work, rehearsals, homework, Mike travelling, and a school Christmas play, I headed out to the big city on Friday with four of my faves.
Our annual Girls' Trip this year might have been one of the best yet! Nat, Cori, Destiny, Shana, and I spent two days laughing, drinking, shopping, and dining in Dallas. If you're going to do a girls' trip, this is what it should look like -->
LoveLoveLove my friends, my family, the holidays, and BREAKS from the madness every once in a while.
xo,
Linds
