The Journey to God's Country

So begins our annual trek to what I call God's Country -- Leakey, Texas, the Frio River, the rolling hills, the deep valleys, LLYC.  It's beautiful. It's special. It's magical.

The pre-camp week actually began with Art Camp for Tate (here with Saige and their self-portraits),

t-ball District Tournament games for Tate, baseball District Tournament games for Cole [and of course these were in two different cities!!] as both boys' teams took First Place in their respective divisions (but then both lost in District, not making it to the State Tournament), and soccer camp for Tate.

Neon Day at Soccer Camp with his friend and classmate, Harlie, who we carpooled with. Harlie is HILARIOUS! She asked her mom why she couldn't spend the night at Tate's, and she insisted to me that her middle name is Cake.  It's Kate.  She is precious.  Tater was chosen to make a goal kick in front of the entire camp on Wednesday because of his good abilities and attitude during camp! Whoo hooo, little stud!

Cole and I ducked out to Central Texas on Thursday and had lunch with this lovely lady.  The world needs more Mamaws.

Saturday, we met the Andres for lunch in the FBG for a post-camp [Jack] / pre-camp [Cole] pow-wow.  Jack left Leaky without his laundry bag and all his dirty clothes, but brought home tons of great memories.

Hoping these two buds can be together in the same session next year.  Their counselor, Quan, commented to me at drop off that Jack had reminded him of Cole all session long. Luckily, I was able to return the laundry bag after dropping Cole off at LLYC, and sneak in a night in Austin with the Andres on the way home.  As I walked in I said, "I come bearing... DIRTY LAUNDRY!" and Katy hugged me. ;)

Sunday morning was a great lunch in Kerrville followed by a caravan to camp! Black SUVs only need apply. LOL.

We drove through the river and up to Singing Hills on a gorgeous Hill Country afternoon with one excited camper!

He was assigned a bottom bunk this year, so we got set up, including his portable A/C unit for the next two weeks [aka the box fan]. :) His trunk doesn't fit under the bed (who knew?!), but we found a good spot for it next to the bed.  He has his own little rug, and a fun poster and photos of family and friends taped to the underside of the top bunk.

He is back in Cabin 4 (same as last year), which was a surprise because we thought he would move up a cabin, but we learned there are no young first-time campers this session. He didn't know a soul because we switched sessions this year, so he was a bit reserved, but I know he's already made friends -- little social butterfly!

Reagan and I were in this same spot many, many years ago as campers, and now back with our kids. Special, indeed.

We enjoyed our mule riding, pellet gun shooting, Clue playing, popsicle melting weekend with Mimi and Papa Jim, and they were able to come with us for drop-off!

These two friends are sure to have the #best2weeks in God's Country.

xo,
Lindsay
