The Cutest Pianist on the Block

This past weekend, Cole and I went to Kilgore for the David Karp Piano Festival.  This was Cole's first piano competition.  He rocked the bow tie while performing his blues song.

Cole and Landon

Kids of all ages (but mainly 1st through 8th grades) competed in 4 levels, ranging from Level I at the bottom to Level 4 at the top.  Level 4 was for advanced duets only.  Cole competed at Level II.  He was the youngest in his class, competing against 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders, and some older than that - mainly girls.

Braxton, Landon, and Cole-Man hamming it up before competition

The kids performed in a room before a single judge.  The top contenders from each level were selected to perform in the Finalists Concert.  Cole did not make the concert, and neither did any of his sweet friends.

Cole, Braxton, Bethany, DG (didn't compete - just there for support), and Gracie were perfectly poised musicians

We drove over to a little diner in Gladewater for lunch while we waited for the results with these cuties.

Cole was very disappointed he did not make the Finalists Concert or win the competition, but I am amazed at his ability and talent to even compete at this level. He got a new Lego because of the several months of hard work he put into practicing.

He came away with great experience and motivation to win next year.
Love, love, love our little Maestro/Engineer/Chatty almost-THIRD GRADER!

In one more piece of {sad} news, we lost Mike's grandfather, Grandpa Schut, yesterday.  We will sure miss him, but are thankful for his long life and his sweet spirit.
